Cumberland Pharma reports earnings tonight after the close and the street expects just over $11MM in sales and a penny per share in net earnings. I expect both of those numbers to be slightly beaten.
I am most interested in updates on Caldolor and Acetadote. Caldolor should show a meaningful jump in formulary approvals and moving towards engaging the sales force to speak with doctors to sell the product. Additionally, Cadence Pharma got FDA approval for their Affirmev product (IV Tylenol) last week and just announced a secondary offering of $85 MM of stock. I would like to know what Cumberland is doing to step up efforts to sell Caldolor in to the market place. An announcement of sales expectaions next year would be nice.
As for Acetadote, with it losing its exclusivity in January, the recent sNDA is extremely important right now for the future of the product. The FDA announced they needed until December to give a decision on the sNDA. Hopefully, we will get an update on its status and more importantly, management should lay out contingency plans if the new indication does not get approval.
Discussion of the cash on hand would be appropriate, since they have not discussed any new product opportunities in quite some time. Are they pursuing any or just sitting on the cash? I would also like to hear what the now in-house Gastro sales force is doing, especially since Kristalose is such a slow moving product. Anything new in the pipeline?
Other, minor questions that I do not expect to get answered are: How long will Management keep up the poor strategy with Caldolor? The time is now for Caldolor to begin producing revenues, as more direct competition from Affirmev is now squarely on the horizon. Will CET ever produce anything? Ten years and nothing but a few grants.
Finally, I am quite interested to see how the stock responds. The last couple quarterly reports were not good for the stock. Since then, institutional ownership has gone up since the stock bottomed in August. What does management pan on doing to replace the revenue from Caldolor stocking in Q3 2009. This quarter showed the most revenue and profit ever and it will definitely show year over year declines in sales and profits.
Overall, the company seems to be doing OK, and if they want to get ahead, Caldolor will have to start producing NOW.
